Our Love Story
Tyler proposed on the rooftop of Bea’s Detroit in Eastern Market! If you know us, you know that couldn’t have been better.
We met while out downtown and instantly connected over our love for the city. Neither of us are native Detroiters, but we’ve both claimed Detroit as our home. Getting engaged and married in the city that we love so much and are proud to call home was beyond perfect.
Our Wedding Vision & How the Pandemic Changed Our Plans
We debated having a wedding at all vs. eloping. We ultimately decided we wanted to have a “micro-wedding” due the pandemic and not wanting to put our large families at risk. We decided to include only our immediate families and closest friends. Our aesthetic was old Detroit glam–classic and art deco. The intention was for a winter wedding, but COVID shifted our plans a bit.
We were supposed to get married on 4-3-21, but had to postpone due to the pandemic’s indoor dining restrictions. We had 30 guests and the limit was 25. Those 30 are our best people and there was no room to cut anyone so we pushed our plans to Memorial day weekend. Our original vision was for a cold weather wedding and we were not excited about the thought of our anniversary forever falling on or near Memorial Day weekend–it’s just not us. So, we started looking into having a city hall ceremony to get married in April, as planned, and just postponing the celebration to May. The county clerk usually performs civil ceremonies, but because of the pandemic, ceremony services were suspended. So, not knowing exactly what to do next, we looked into who is able to officiate weddings, and we found that Mayors can. Tyler used to work with Mayor Duggan, so he reached out to see if the Mayor would officiate for us and he very generously agreed. We were wed on April 2nd, 2021 in Mayor Duggan’s office.
