Our Wedding at DoubleTree by Hilton Port Huron: May 21, 2022
“We couldn’t be happier with the results! From day one, the team went above and beyond to make the planning process seamless and our wedding day stress free. Our DJ kept our guests dancing all night, which was one of our biggest priorities, and the photographers and videographer were so attentive and fun to work with. We’re so grateful to Mike Staff for perfectly capturing our wedding day and exceeding our expectations. We can’t recommend Mike Staff enough!” – Happy bride, Kourtney
Our Love Story
We met in November 2013 at a college party. Our first date was in the winter at Campus Martius in downtown Detroit and we had a couple more date nights there throughout our relationship, so I thought that it would be a very fitting place for the proposal, but I knew that if I just randomly wanted to go there, she would suspect a ring (like many past vacations).
I messaged her best friend to help me try and throw Kourtney off. We decided that her friend would message her and ask if we would want to go on a double date with her and her husband. Ultimately, we had Kourtney pick a day that would work for all of us, along with the time, so she wouldn’t expect anything to happen.
Day of we were all skating around the rink, and I had to do quite a few laps to build up the courage to actually pop the question. To no surprise, the proposal caught her off guard, to the point where she actually asked “really?!” due to it being a long time coming. After a couple seconds for her to actually believe me, she said yes! We took a few pictures, skated a final lap, and then went off to a celebratory dinner just a few blocks away in downtown Detroit.
Our Wedding DJ
Our wedding DJ, James, was incredible! One of our biggest priorities for our wedding day was ensuring our guests had fun and that the dance floor was packed all night long, and James made it happen. Additionally, James played the guitar and sang during our cocktail hour which was an awesome, personal touch to the day.
Our first dance was to “No Place” by the Backstreet Boys. We were long distance for four years while Ryan was in the military and the chorus, “you’ll always be the home I wanna come home to,” totally resonated with me. I have been a lifelong Backstreet Boys fan, so when this song came out, I knew I had to share it with Ryan, especially as we were wrapping up our final year of long distance. I turned it on in the car one day when he was home from leave and said, “this could be our first dance song one day!” To my surprise, Ryan agreed and since then, this song has held a special place in our hearts.
Our Wedding Photography
Our professional wedding photographers, Greg and Ashley, were so fun to work with on our wedding day. They were so professional and kept us on task so that we were getting all of the photos we wanted, even those outlandish poses our groomsmen were suggesting! We are so grateful that they so beautifully captured our wedding day and we get to cherish these memories forever
Our Wedding Video
A wedding video has always been important to me. I remember watching my parents’ wedding video over and over when I was little and thinking it was so amazing that my parents could always look back on their wedding day. Daniel was so great to work with and captured so many details throughout the day. I love watching our video back and seeing bits and pieces of the day that I missed in the moment.
